John Boyd, Longtime Briarcliff Volunteer and Neighbor Passes On
Our Briarcliff flag flies at half mast after losing one of Briarcliff's beloved neighbors and volunteers. This Wednesday, June 13th, John Boyd passed away. He and his wife Billie were cornerstones in the community as the Briarcliff Social Committee Chairs for many years, and the gazebo at the Sleat and McDaniel Drive is dedicated to them as Boyd Park. It was they who started our popular annual 4th of July Parade and worked eagerly to expand social events to welcome and include the growing number of young families in the neighborhood. John was an active member at Bee Creek United Methodist Church and always cared deeply about his community. Adding to the eclectic nature of Briarcliffdwellers, John led an interesting life that included working at NASA. He was in mission control's think tank that worked under deep pressure and with incredible creativity to solve the problem of NASA's most popular successful failure, Apollo 13. A memorial service will be held for John this Friday, June 15th at 10 a.m. and his obituary will be linked here as soon as it is available.
